The oldest specimen goes back to the year 1204 and was taken from the great tower which means that the castle was built next to 1200. The castle in association with the church was 100 years ago the centre of the village “Puchberg”. Documented from the 13th century Rüdiger de Puchperc is named, who probably lived in the castle. In the first half of the 14th century the castle passes to “Stüchse von Trautmannsdorf”. 1381 Duke Leopold III, sovereign of styria, acquired the castle before he died 1386 as a leader from a knight’s army in Switzerland. The new sovereign, Duke Albrecht III, invest with a fief the “Lichtensteiner” to rule over the castle. The “Lichtensteiner” incur the displeasure of the sovereign and so various governors ruled over the castle, which means that the importance of the castle losses. The last pawnee “Johan Baptist Freiherr von Hoyos” purchased 1594 the castle with all its immovables and it is still his property.

 


To the middle of the 19th century probably in the 17th century the castle was converted to a great garner and had a well preserved roof and was in usage. Till 1837 the local school was accommodated in the castle. At 1850 the roof framework was removed and a fast dilapidation took place which leaved only a ruin.
